Insulation Questions
1. How much money will insulation save on heating and cooling bills?
A. Insulation to the correct level has the potential to save 20-30% on heating and cooling bills if ceilings are insulated and a further 15-20% if external walls are also insulated. This means that if you get your ceiling and external walls insulated, you could save between 35-50% on your bills!
2. How long do insulation Batts last?
A. Glasswool (or Rockwool) insulation batts are guaranteed by the manufacturer for the lifetime of the home. A guarantee is offered because Cozy Aussie Insulation installs only Australian made batts.
3. Are there any health concerns when using Australian made Batts?
A. There are no known long term health effects. The product is made from FBS-1 glass wool and has been tested in laboratory and shown to be bio-soluble. Bio-soluble means that any fibres inhaled into the lungs dissolve in body fluids and are then cleared from the lungs.
Gold Batts, Pink and AGI insulation batts are suitable for use in the homes of asthma and allergy sufferers.
Fibreglass batts are manufactured from spun mineral fibres - silicate or basalt, as such, it is hazardous to inhale or ingest the fibres in to the body. It is very important to wear both protective clothing and appropriate breathing apparatus when installing fibreglass / glasswool insulation batts.
Once the batts are installed either in to the walls before lining them with plasterboard, or in to the ceiling cavity, they effectively are contained within the walls or ceiling space and are no longer harmful to you or your family's health in any way.
4. How is it installed?
A. The batts are laid directly over your ceiling, between the timber ceiling frames. Care is taken to ensure we cut around all penetrations (i.e.: downlights, ceiling fans etc.).
5. Can I get a firm price on the phone for having insulation batts installed?
A. No, a professional quotation requires an onsite inspection or a copy of a house plan to be viewed. In addition other factors that are taken into consideration are the home’s location, the depth of ceiling joists, the spacing of the ceiling joists, the roof structure (whether conventional or trussed), the roof space accessibility, raking ceiling areas, as well as the recommended R rating required. A measure and quote is free and there is no obligation to purchase.
6. What is an R-value?
A. In simple terms R-value is a measure of thermal resistance and how well an insulation material reduces heat flow. The denser the insulation, the higher the R-value.
7. My home has old loose-fill insulation in it, can I have it removed and replaced with new insulation Batts?
A. Yes, Cozy Aussie Insulation offers an insulation removal service where old insulation is removed from the ceilings, the ceilings are vacuumed and then a professional installation of new Batts is carried out. Where ceilings require repairs or replacement after removal of the old insulation, the Batt installation takes place after the ceiling work is completed.
8. Can insulation reduce condensation and mould growth on ceilings of a bedroom?
A. When correctly installed, insulation can assist in reducing condensation and mould problems by keeping internal surfaces warmer. Other factors contributing to condensation which should also be considered are ventilation, low room temperatures and high humidity levels in the house.
